The 14th Face-to-Face Open Workshop took place at the 2002 ASME Design Engineering Technical Conferences in Montreal, Quebec.
As usual the panelists were extremely engaging and the open question session was full of great questions and interesting
responses.
Documents Available from the 14th Meeting
The objective of the meeting was to have representatives from academia and industry discuss their views on the
role of demand modeling in engineering design. The two main issues considered were, the applicable approaches
to demand modeling in engineering design and how preferences of both producer and customer should be integrated into
design decision making.
Discussion was centered around the following questions:
- What is your recommended approach to demand modeling? How does it capture the preference of a group of
customers and how can it be used to predict the impact of product quality improvement and feature upgrades,
considering the existence of competing products?
- What is your approach to integrating the preferences of both the producer and customers in engineering
decision making?
- What do you see the top research issues for demand and preference modeling in particular and for
Decision-Based Design in general?
