Meetings

The 15th Face-to-Face Open Workshop took place at the 2003 NSF Design, Service and Manufacturing Grantees and Research Conference in Birmingham, Alabama. As usual the panelists were extremely engaging and the open question session was full of great questions and interesting responses.

Documents Available from the 15th Meeting

The focus of the meeting was centered on the issue of model validation in engineering design. The panelists were asked to give their thoughts on this issue and to discuss whether a general theory of model validation can be created, and if so, how.

Discussion was centered around the following questions:

  • What is your definition of model validity?

  • What do you think should be the mathematical framework for model validation?

  • How do you view model validation as an integral part of an engineering design process?

  • What do you see as the top research issue for model validation in particular and for Decision-Based Design in general?
